Back to School!

Well, it's that time of year again... time for another school year to begin.  Kaira is in the 3rd grade this year! And she's very excited about it.

The first day of school is always a half-day.  It's kind of become a tradition to go to this little place to eat lunch after her first day back each year. Besides having great food, they also have a dessert/pastry case up from that Kaira loves picking out a dessert from.  This year we got two different desserts and each had half of each.

giant cookie she picked out.

Fun at SciPort

Sci-Port, the Children's Science & Discover center in town, is one of our favorite places to go hang out when we have some free time.  While Lokei was up in Shreveport visiting, we all went for an afternoon to play around with all of the fun exhibits they have.  They also have daily hands-on projects at different stations throughout the day that change from day to day.  The one we stumbled upon this particular day was making Film Canister Rockets....

Measuring out the water

Using the pipette to transfer the water to the film canister (Probably would have been faster just to pour the water in, but they used the pipette because it was 'fun').

Then they added the Alka-Seltzer, put on the cap, flipped it over (cap-side down) and waited.....

I didn't catch the actual rocket in the picture, but you can see the bose on the table where it explosed, and the actual rocket is up in the air where Kaira is staring in amazement.

In the Kitchen

Kaira has been my helper in the kitchen for years.  She usually helps me make breakfast on the weekends... helping mix & prep.  She's finally big enough that I decided to let her have a try on the stove actually cooking and flipping the pancakes.  She was very excited about finally getting the chance to man the griddle.  And she did a great job!

Flipping her own pancakes

Showing off the pancakes she made... all by herself!  She was so proud.

Bellydancing

A friend of mine loves to go to a local Greek restaurant because on certain nights they have a bellydancer that comes and dances.  Her girls go to the same dance school Kaira goes to, and they love to watch and also usually end up getting the dancer to teach them a little bit too.  She talked Kaira & I into joining them for dinner one night, and Kaira had a blast watching and dancing.

Med school.... 4th (and final!) year

My school year started earlier than Kaira's (I started back at the beginning of July) so the school year is already in full swing for me.  On our first day back, we had to take our yearbook photos for the year, which this year are done in graduation robes.  Just got our class composite picture back... it's still a while til graduation, but it's exciting to see the official graduation pictures!
